Coucou les gens ! / Hey guys !
Alors je vous retrouve, après une petite semaine à la campagne, pour un petit article consacré (à nouveau) à New York !
Oui, oui j’ai choisi, par conséquent, un titre ressemblant à mon article précédent (et pour ceux ou celles qui ne l’aurait pas vu, vous pouvez le retrouver ici ) et non, non je ne radote pas, enfin je ne crois pas 😂 En effet, après quelques calculs j’avais fait plus de 4 600 photos (certaines ne servent absolument à rien, mais je les garde quand même ça fait un souvenir de vacances). Et moi qui pensait que je n’en avais fait « que » 2 000, j’étais complètement à coté de la plaque quoi ! / So I’m back, after a week at the countryside, for a little article on New York, yes I know again ! Yes, yes, I chose a title which kind of look like to the previous article (and for those of you who didn’t see it, you can find it here), and no, no I’m not rambling, well I don’t think so 😂 Indeed, I took a lot more that I previously thought, I mean I took a little more than 4 600 photos (some of them are absolutely useless, but I keep them anyway !) And I thought I « only » took 2 000 photos, I was quite far from the result, right ?

C’est dingue que l’on retrouve des églises aussi magnifiques et qui datent du XIXème siècle, parmi les très nombreux buildings de New York ! Ça donne un certain cachet en plus en plus je trouve ! / It’s crazy that we can find some magnificient buildings (well churches) which were built in the 19th century among the very high buildings of New York ! That gives a certain charm to the city I think !

Atlas au Rockefeller Center — et petite anecdote : toutes les sculptures et autres oeuvres d’art étaient choisies par Abby Rockefeller, une femme avec un goût très prononcé pour l’art déco et qui était d’un tempérament fort ce qui l’amena à avoir plusieurs disputes avec son mari John D. Rockefeller Jr. qui n’aimait pas du tout cet art nouveau et qu’il trouvait vulgaire. Cet Atlas créa la polémique puisqu’il est placé devant la cathédrale St Patrick (qui était en rénovation quand j’étais à New York). En effet, les Rockefeller demandèrent l’autorisation au pape de placer cette statue devant l’église : un homme torse nu portant un globe, et qui plus est, une statue représentant un dieu (Atlas), ce qui au premier abord n’a rien de religieux. Pourtant, si on regarde bien, on voit que l’homme est en train de s’agenouiller comme s’il reconnaissait que Dieu est l’être tout puissant par excellence et que rien ne peut le dépasser. C’est ainsi que cette statue fut autorisée à être placée à cet endroit./ Atlas at the Rockefeller Center — and a little story about it : every single statue or other masterpieces were chosen by Abby Rockefeller, a woman who had a great taste for the art deco but who had a strong personality. Actually, it was mostly because of works of art she chose, that she had arguments with her husband John D. Rockefeller Jr., who didn’t like much that « new art » which he found it vulgar. This Atlas has fed a polemic, given that it placed close to St. Patrick’s Cathedral (which was undergoing renovation when I was in New York). Indeed, the Rockefeller family asked the pope authorization for the statue to be placed in front of the cathedral : a bare-chested man carrying a globe which represent in fact a ancient god (Atlas), which at first has nothing to do with religion. Yet, if you look closely, you can see that the man is kneeling down, like he recognizes that God is the Master of the world and nothing can overpass him. That’s how this statue was authorized to be placed there.
